So it’s Tuesday and I haven’t blogged all day, sorry about that. Quick update on my NFL picks from last week. I ended the week at 10-7…with the surprising Dallas win

Two quick stories I want to share with you today. One is from KING 5 News this morning. Over the weekend a couple had their dog stolen from their backyard. Luckily, they have security video of the dog nappers. What really hit with me wasn’t the fact that a dog was stolen (that is sad in itself). But in the story the couple explains how you can hear the dog whimper as it’s being drug out of the backyard because the dog is being shocked by it’s electrical shock collar.

Who in their right mind would steal someone’s pet…I mean come on. To take someone’s let/friend/companion is just uncalled for. If you want to watch the story click here and it’ll take you to KING5.com.

Okay let me start by saying I am a Packer fan to the end…but here was the controversial call from that game. What do you think?

“As Green Bay’s coverage team converged on Hester as he looked skyward, Bears wide receiver Johnny Knox was actually catching the ball on the far sideline. All alone, Knox sprinted up the fringe of Soldier Field. By the time that the Pack realized that the ball hadn’t been kicked to Hester, Knox was long gone. He would score on the play, seemingly putting the Bears in position to attempt an onside kick to prolong their comeback bid.

But an official had thrown a flag during the return and it was called back. It was announced that the penalty was holding, which isn’t a strange call on most long kick returns. The only problem here was that this nothing like most long kick returns. Knox had been all alone from the start with no defenders even running in his direction until it was far too late. To make matters worse for the officials, the replays revealed no clear infractions on any Bears players, including No. 21 who seemed to have been named by the refs as the offending player. In the FOX broadcast booth, neither Joe Buck or Troy Aikman could figure out why the hold was called, especially on No. 21.”

First off, nice call by Da Bears! They got everyone looking the other way…and second Packers what the heck were you thinking? Come on containment please…containment! But nevertheless we are 3-0 and looking good doing it!

Now let’s jump into it…now let me start off with saying I’m the umpteenth person to talk about the new Facebook changes but hey it’s what blogs are for right . So I will say that at first when the changes happened I wasn’t happy about it (I’m not going to say I was b****in’ about it…but I made a few comments about how I didn’t appreciate Facebook changing layouts all the time). But the more I played around with it and the more I read people’s comments, blogs and articles about the new changes the more I decided okay it’s a free service, I don’t pay anything for it, it’s my choice to use it or not. I think Facebook is a cool way to stay in touch with people you went to high school with, college, co-workers, friends and family. In a time where everything is e-mail this and IM that it’s nice to see people connecting with each. Yes, I understand it’s not face-to-face but it’s a great alternative. With Facebook you don’t need to wait 10 years for your high school reunion because with Facebook friends are always posting pics of themselves, their families and what they’re doing. With Facebook you don’t have to be homesick because your family can talk/video you anytime of day! They can share pics of what’s going on as it happens (via Facebook apps on your smartphone). So yes, Facebook changes every two to three months or so but guess what people aren’t leaving the website in masses. They’re sticking it out and learning how to adapt to the new changes; because in the end it’s not about what it looks like or how your home screen works…Facebook is and always will be all about networking, all about keeping in touch with those you haven’t seen in a wihle, and all about saying hi to your loved ones (even though you just saw them 5 minutes ago). So yes, people will b**** about the new changes and yes people won’t like it in the beginning (because let’s be honest who likes change) but guess what…there’s NOTHING out there that has 1.) the number of users on it 2.) the power that Facebook has and 3.) the “cool” factor.

I’m not saying you have to stop complaining because let’s be honest there could be worst things floating around the internet…

“WSDOT has canceled the planned weekend closure of northbound I-405 in Bellevue due to bad weather expected Sunday. WSDOT had planned to close the northbound lanes of I-405 from NE Eighth Street to SR 520 to work on some new ramps.  Part of the work involved repainting the stripes on the roadway. With rain in the forecast for Sunday, WSDOT decided to postpone the project and the closure. More details were to be released during a news conference scheduled at 10:30 a.m.”

Hey Guys sorry so late today work was crazy but better late than never! Here’s what trending on the interwebs today…TV! TV is the hot topic all day today…what shows are coming back? What shows will kick some a**? What shows will live up to the hype?

On the docket tonight FOX brings back another night of the ‘X-Factor’ (which didn’t bring in the numbers they wanted to last night, ABC’s Modern Family held strong and didn’t let go), ABC brings back the highly anticipated Grey’s Anatomy (don’t judge but I’m stoked!), CBS will have a power house of crime show tonight starting with their new show ‘Person of Interest’ followed by the always ratings powerhouse ‘The Mentalist’. And how can we forget ABC’s attempt at “new tv” with ‘Charlie’s Angels’. We’ll see who comes out on top tonight…my prediction 1.) CBS – ‘The Mentalist’ (not a fan) 2.) ABC – ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ (2-hour season premiere) and 3.) FOX – ‘X-Factor’.

It’s time for new C.E.O Tim Cook to take on his first big challenge…the release of the iPhone 5.0. October 4th is the day Apple enthusiats will find out all the new specs of the iPhone and you can bet between now and then the rumor-villie will be non-stop about things that may or may not be on the highly anticipated new iPhone. From Mashable.com:

“So if we’re on the iPad 2 schedule, expect to see the iPhone 5 in stores on Thursday, Oct. 13. But there are plenty of reasons to think it might arrive earlier. Remember the leaked Sprint announcement blacking out vacation time for store employees in the first two weeks of October? Usually I don’t tackle local issues…because I think it’s too boring but here goes…in a recent article posted on mynorthwest.com it explains that the wonderful people over at the Mercer Island City Council plan to move forward with what I call a booze ordinance. Here’s the quick and short of it; Mercer Island City Council wants to enact an ordinance to fine parents $250 if their kids throw drinking parties at their homes (even if your kid is 22 comes back from college and decides to have a few drinks with a couple buddies). City of Mercer Island Youth Family Services Department, Derek Franklin, says across the country ordinances like the one proposed is working and cutting down on teen drinking.

Well Mr. Franklin…let’s see you want to hold parents responsible for their kids actions (even if the parents had no idea what their kids were doing when they were gone?). That doesn’t sound right…what happened to showing kids you are responsible for your OWN actions. You do the crime…you do the time! I think that motto is being thrown out the windows nowadays. I believe teens/adolescents are being shown (via youtube, celebrities, TV, etc.) that if you have money you can get away with anything you want, there’s no reason to take responsibility for your actions because someone else will take the fall for you.

When I was young I remember being punished…and swatted, a few times. I didn’t call 911 or CPS; it’s part of learning what not to do (looking back I thank my parents for that…lol).

Okay, I digress, what I’m saying is why are we punishing parents (especially if they didn’t know) why don’t we think of fining/punishing the people who had fun that night–the kids! Oh, and why is the government telling me how and what to do with my kids? Keep the government out of our homes…let parents be parents. HEY…why don’t you tackle issues that really matter! Like dog poop on the sidewalks or clean parks for kids or hey fundraising to bring some programs you had to squash because of the poor economy. I don’t know, tackle issues that will help us…don’t tell us what to do!

Another thing trending online today ‘Two and a Half Men.’ I’ll be honest I don’t watch that show, was never a Charlie Sheen fan and never found that show to be hilarious. So I didn’t watch last night’s premiere (Sheen free). But a lot of people did. Here’s what some people are saying:

Cryos international’s director told a danish newspaper it’s a matter of supply and demand. He says most customers want sperm from brown-eyed, brown-haired donors. For now – the bank doesn’t need any sperm and they have a waiting list that’s 600 names long. That’s why the bank says it’s being more selective about donations.

One show I can’t help but watch is ‘The Sing-Off’ on NBC; hosted by the one and only PUN KING Nick Lachey. Before going on I just want to make it clear I am in no way shape or form a music expert, I don’t pretend to be one, I haven’t studied music. But I think I know what sounds good and bad…and I say what I’m thinking. So with that here’s a recap of the night.

Best Group of the Night:

Yellow Jackets – Wavin’ Flag

I loved watching their performance! They had great energy, it didn’t help they had a very inspirational video leading into their performance…but still they delivered. They seemed well rehearsed (like seasoned pros) and they were on-point. Their background vocals were magic to my ears. Musicality was high and this group HAD TALENT. One down side was there was no stand out as lead vocal but all-in-all I could deal with it. It’s a great start for this group.

Next up, Delilah Sings – Grenade

Best thing this group has to offer–a great lead! For an all-female group I was highly surprised how I liked it. Most times I don’t like all-female groups because I feel like they are missing something (bass, lows, etc.) but for some reason this group just clicked with me. Just like the Yellow Jackets these gals were music to my ears. Again, a great start for this group.

Now the okay, Afro Blues – Put Your Records On

Now I’m not sure if it was the song, or the mix for TV but I was truly disappointed in this performance. Their lead in package I was ampped to see them perform. I got through the first few bars of the song thinking, okay this could be good. But as the song built, they didn’t. Their lead vocalist sounded flat to me and their back-ups were okay (horrible harmonies by the girls…it would’ve sounded better if they didn’t join in to “help” the lead vocalists out.

Now the not so good, Fannin Family – Who Says

Sadly, it’s just one mic for the Fannin Family…they did nothing for me. In fact I had to turn it down. Again, not sure if the mix was wrong for TV but they were just out of tune. Not enough low parts to keep song interesting. Their leads were just okay…it was a valiant effort for sure, but in the end the judges made the right choice to send these guys home.

A 2-hour premiere means a lot to talk about…

…moving on to Kinfolk – Secrets

First, if you can’t rap DON’T…even if the song calls for “rap” figure out a way to get around it (except if the rap is well known). And if you have to “rap” find someone that can pull it off. This group fell short of that special something. Not sure what it was but I feel like this group was missing something (vocally, energy, choreography) couldn’t put my finger on it. If they want to stay in the competition they need to step it up.

Urban Method – Love the Way You Lie

Speaking of raps…this group delivered…and delivered in a big way. The rapper they have is flawless! Good change from “typical” songs heard on the ‘Sing-Off’. This group will go far IF they keep choosing the right song and featuring they’re secret weapon (no longer a secret). Another thing this group has got going for them…an AMAZING lead singer. This was my number 2 pick of the night (usually I only feature MY best group of the night…but in case you missed their performance).

Next up, Cat’s Pajamas – Some Kind of Wonderful (click on link to watch their performance)

First off, no clue why they got kicked off. Why did the judges do it? Out of all the groups I feel like this group had something no one else had…experience. According to their opening package, Cat’s Pajamas perform nearly 200 shows a year in Branson, MO and after that much repetition it showed. Their voices were on-point and they had “moves.” I just don’t get it…any one have a theory?

Finally, Vocal Point – Jump Jive an Wait

GREAT ENERGY…that’s what I took a way. Great way to perform that song! The background vocals were great…I loved the song…and they were just happy. And sometimes it’s hard to convey that when you’re nervous. Still room for improvement but nonetheless a good start.

What a week for ‘The Sing-off’ I’m excited for the rest of the season. And apparently next week we’ll meet a whole new group of singers! If you love music (just music no instruments, no fancy sh-mancy fireworks) this is your show to watch! And I’ll be watching with ya! Check it out on NBC!

In a memo sent out late Sunday night C.E.O Reed Hastings said, “I messed up. I owe you an explanation.” He continues by saying, “It is clear from the feedback over the past two months that many members felt we lacked respect and humility in the way we announced the separation of DVD and streaming and the price changes. That was certainly not our intent, and I offer my sincere apology. Let me explain what we are doing.”

I’m all about C.E.Os stepping up to the plate and admitting they were wrong. But in this case I think people OVERREACTED to a new business plan approach. I knew what Netflix was trying to accomplish when they separated their streaming and DVD plan. I thought to myself hey great idea…now I can save money and not pay for DVDs. Listen folks Netflix is just trying to stay in game. It’s not their fault GREEDY Hollywood always wants more money. Netflix keep doing what you’re doing…keep making streaming better…keep bringing new content in and people will soon realize you are the best game in town.

On another funny note from Netflix…apparently their new company ‘Qwikster’ cannot use that name for twitter–it’s already taken. I’m going to give you a preview of who already has it…(not for kids to read )
